Niki's Notes
September 7, 2008. Okay. I admit. The reason for this write up is not so much because
of the wine. More so, it is because of the discovery in its entirety, which encompasses a wonderful
cafe/restaurant/market which also houses a gorgeous wine market.
If any of you have not visited the Washington Corridor bordered on the west by Westcott and on the east by Houston
Avenue in the last couple of years, you are in for a big surprise. The wine discovery was experienced
at Raia's Italian Market (www.raiasitalianmarket.com) which is located just east of Shepherd off of Washington in a newly erected
strip center.
The addition to this newly affluent area of mostly young to middle-aged professionals
is very welcomed. Its ambiance is casual reminiscent more of a New York deli, yet its aura invokes an upper echelon depictive
of its recent residents. I complemented the smooth, purple Chianti with
the Pomodoro Pasta consisting of fusili pasta, garlic, roma tomatoes, extra virgin olive oil. I asked Juan, the
more than accommodating, knowledgeable waiter, to add sauteed spinach atop the fiery pasta simmering in the white bowl. Simply smashing.
Please let me know what you think about Raia's Italian Market. The buzz appears to be around town already . . .

Delightfully charming, with a hint of violets in the nose and a dry, harmonious taste. This enticing Chianti is excellent with a broad range of foods.
